A Weekend in Vegas Celebrating Justin

Las Vegas usually brings to mind bright lights, casinos, and endless entertainment. This trip was different.

We traveled to Vegas to celebrate a significant military achievement for our son, Justin, and I couldn't have been more proud.

As parents, we watch our children grow through different stages of life. We cheer from the sidelines at ball games, celebrate graduations, and encourage them through challenges. Then one day, they accomplish something that makes you stop and realize they're no longer becoming who they're meant to be—they've become that person.

This weekend felt like one of those moments.

The ceremony itself was meaningful, but what stood out even more was meeting the people who helped Justin along the way. Throughout his military career, he's been fortunate to learn from outstanding leaders, mentors, and friends. We had the opportunity to spend time with many of them, and it gave us a glimpse into the world he navigates every day.

As parents, we hear stories. We know names. We listen when our children talk about the people who have influenced them. But actually meeting those individuals is something entirely different.

We met men and women who challenged him, guided him, encouraged him, and helped shape him into the leader he is today. We met friends who stood beside him through difficult assignments, long hours, and the unique experiences that come with military service. We met people whose integrity, professionalism, and dedication were immediately obvious.

One of the greatest gifts a parent can receive is discovering that your child has surrounded himself with good people.

Throughout the weekend, I found myself listening more than talking. Every conversation revealed another piece of Justin's journey. Someone would share a story about a challenge he'd overcome, a leadership decision he'd made, or a time he stepped up when it mattered. Those stories meant more than any official recognition ever could.

The military is often described as a family, and after this weekend, I understand that description even better. The bonds formed through shared experiences create connections that run deep. Watching Justin interact with the people who have become part of that family was something I'll never forget.

Of course, we also enjoyed Vegas. We shared meals, laughed, explored, and spent time together outside the formal events. Those moments are often the ones that stay with you the longest. Between the celebrations and conversations, there were countless reminders of how fortunate we are.

I returned home with a full heart.

Proud of Justin.

Grateful for the mentors who invested their time and wisdom in him.

Thankful for the friends who stood beside him.

And reminded once again that success is rarely achieved alone.

Congratulations, Justin. Your achievement is well deserved, but seeing the respect others have for you may be the accomplishment that makes your parents proudest of all.
